Groups and Schools
Arranging a group visit is no mean feat. All that planning, booking and organising. Don't worry though, we've thought of everything. All five walled towns welcome groups and schools, and whether you fancy a Roman tour of Chester or a day of medieval discovery in North Wales, we can point you in the right direction so you get the most out of your visit.
Chester
According to the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK, England's Northwest is home to more coach-friendly destinations than any other English region. And with so many places to go, sights to see and guided tours to take (including a tour of 'Fortress Dewa' in the company of a Roman soldier in full battle gear) a group tour to Chester has never been more exciting. Contact Chester Tourist Information Centre for more details or to book your group tour. Chester TIC is at Town Hall, Northgate Street, Chester, Telephone: +(44) 01244 402111, visit www.chester.gov.uk or see the Chester for Groups section at www.visitchester.com.
Wales
www.groupsnorthwales.co.uk is the essential port-of-call for group travel organisers. With information on arranging day trips, sightseeing tours, booking group-friendly accommodation, as well as organising themed packages and special interest breaks.
Entrance to all 127 Cadw sites across Wales is free for pre-booked educational groups, and that includes our castles and walled towns. All the information you need to plan your educational visit - things like choosing a place to visit and ideas for activities when you get there - can be found on the Cadw website. A planning visit to your chosen Cadw site can be arranged (also free of charge), and you can download teacher's notes, reconstruction drawings, photographs, quizzes, classroom notes, booking and safety information. Please see the Learning & Discovery section on the Cadw website - www.cadw.wales.gov.uk.
Look out for...
Cadw will shortly be running a 'Time-travellers' pilot scheme at Conwy Castle for school groups - an exciting history trail with clues hidden throughout the castle, eye-spy and a de-brief afterwards.
