CADW
Be one in a million
Cadw is the name for the Welsh Assembly Government’ historic environment service. And it’s the nice people at Cadw who look after our old bits, like Edward I’s medieval Welsh castles and town walls you’ve read about on this website.
Their name comes from the Welsh ‘to keep’. Which is quite appropriate really, because that’s just what they do. Cadw custodians, skilled masons and other craftspeople of Cadwreath Cymru keep our important historic properties and heritage sites in excellent order. To make sure they’ll be around for years and years to come. So that our children, and their children can visit and enjoy them as much as we do.
And they don’t just look after our walled towns and castles. They care for other historic buildings, sites and monuments. Which means that places like Plas Mawr in Conwy can continue to show off their interior plasterwork. The painted ceilings at Gwydir Uchaf Chapel stay beautiful. Anglesey’s 10 foot high Penrhos Feilw Standing Stones stay standing. And that other ancient sites, like Bryn Celli Ddu Burial Chamber, stay open for visitors. In fact Cadw welcomes over a million visitors to its sites each year. And you can be one of them. Find out more about Cadw sites at www.cadw.wales.gov.uk.
